Premiering in July 2021 and currently preparing to launch a fourth season, the hit HBO show “The White Lotus” is always set in a five-star hotel in which wealthy guests spend a week filled with thorny relationships and murderous drama.

The first season of the show was filmed inside the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii. The hotel displayed in the second was actually the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Sicily’s Taormina, and the setting for the third was the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui in Thailand.

As confirmed by several entertainment watchdogs, filming of the fourth season is set to begin in April 2026 and continue until October 2026 to premiere in early 2027. While Warner Brothers-owned HBO has previously confirmed that the next season of the show will be set in the south of France, entertainment outlet Variety has become the first to break that the exact setting is The Château de La Messardière in Saint-Tropez.

“The White Lotus” season 4 will take place in a 19th-century chateau

The 19th-century palace was built by liquor trader and nobleman Gabriel Dupuy d’Angeac, but has for the last decade operated as a five-star hotel under the Airelles luxury collection of seven luxury properties.

Suites at the property range from $3,000 to $8,000 per night. It has been a hotel under different luxury chains since the 1920s.

The castle is built around a 32-acre pine and cypress forest and also includes a spa, several luxury restaurants and access to a private beach by transfer on a Rolls-Royce.

At the moment, the hotel is marked as “currently closed” on all major booking platforms, while on Instagram, the chateau’s owners previously alluded to the fact that it can serve as a film set, with a post that refers to the premises as “not a movie set.”

“The final clap echoes, the sun sets, and the curtain closes on another unforgettable season,” Airelles Saint Tropez wrote on Oct. 12. “[…] Until next season… the stage is set, and we’re already counting down.”

With HBO yet to confirm, more details around popular show emerge

Neither Airelless nor HBO has commented on the scoop that “The White Lotus” will be set in the chateau.

Variety, however, reports that it will be one of several sets alongside a plot line that goes into Saint-Tropez itself and a few days inside a Parisian hotel (likely due to American guests who arrive in Paris and then travel further south after a few days in the city).

The only details confirmed by HBO are that the season will once again follow a group of travelers who check into a luxury hotel. If confirmed correct, the Airelles set marks the first break from the previous three seasons filmed at various Four Seasons properties.

The filming of the set is also set to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival in May, which, according to sources with inside knowledge, will also factor into the fourth season of “The White Lotus.”
