Why we love this deal

With spring right around the corner, you’ll be spending more time outside, hopefully enjoying all the activities like walking, hiking, biking, and more that were harder to participate in during those freezing cold winter months. But just because spring might be in season doesn’t mean the weather has gotten the memo. Anyone who loves the outdoors knows that Mother Nature can throw anything at you, which is why when it’s finally time to enjoy those outdoors more, it’s best to prepare with the right clothing, and nothing will keep you warm and protected from the elements quite like a quality jacket like the one REI is offering on sale right now.

The REI Co-op Magma 850 Down Hoodie Jacket, which usually retails for $259, is 50% off in all available colors and sizes. You can save $130 and get the lightweight, easily packable closet addition for just $129.

Why do shoppers love it?

This jacket is the perfect mix of well-insulated but lightweight. When you’re on the go, particularly when you’re outdoors participating in some sort of sporting event or activity, you want a jacket that provides warmth but won’t weigh you down or hold you back, and this one checks off both boxes.

Made from recycled nylon and goose down, this jacket offers superior insulation, especially in colder and dryer conditions. The nylon makes the jacket windproof and water-resistant, which means it will withstand light rain, snow, fog, and other moisture for a limited time. The durable water repellent (DWR) coating makes water bead up on the surface of the jacket and run off the jacket. However, since it’s not waterproof, it isn’t designed for long periods of water exposure, because the moisture will inevitably permeate the jacket. The goose down makes the jacket feel soft and fluffy, and it’s highly breathable so you’re less likely to overheat or get overly warm. It’s also what makes the jacket easy to pack and travel with, because the goose down insulation is what brings the warmth without the bulk, therefore making it easy to fold up or compress.

Available in three colors, the jacket has a down-filled hood that you can customize to fit your head properly, elastic cuffs around the sleeves, a drawcord hem that you can tighten to seal in warmth or loosen to let in cool air, and a center-front zipper that has backed by a windflap so again, outside air can’t get into the interior of your jacket.

The raglan sleeves and articulated elbows provide a flexible fit that allows for easy movement when it’s being worn, and a zippered chest pocket and two zippered hand pockets allow for storage of small items or an extra way to keep hands warm.

The jacket is machine washable, and the brand advertises to clean in warm water on a gentle cycle with special down wash detergent or product. Don’t twist or wring out water once it has completed a wash cycle. Instead, tumble dry on low with two clean tennis balls — which helps reduce wrinkles and fluff up bulky items — remove from the dryer and fluff up before returning to the dryer to complete the full cycle.

You won’t be disappointed,” another shopper said.
