Update: 9:37 a.m. ET

Opening Bell

The U.S. markets are open for the day.

Reversing yesterday’s gains this morning, the Nasdaq (+0.68%) is up nearly one percent, while the Russell 2000 (+0.49%), S&P 500(+0.46%), and Dow (+0.28%) are also adding today.

The uniformity in performance from benchmarks comes as tech stocks bounce back from a disappointing last two days. Semiconductor stocks are leading the way after Taiwan Semiconductor (+4.3%) reported earnings, igniting a rally across the whole sector.

In total, about 48.0% (2,657) U.S. issues are advancing today against 47.1% (2,606) in decline.

Here’s the total U.S. stock market for some context (15 minutes delayed):

In metals news, continuous futures in gold (-0.61%) and silver (-2.53%) are seen sagging today after a strong few days of trading for the metals market. They’re sitting high and mighty at $4,600 and $89, respectively.

Treasurys are little-moved today, with the 10Y up 1 bip to 4.15%. The 20Y and 30Y are down 0.8 bips and 1.2 bips respectively at 4.728% and 4.783%.

A.M. Update

Good morning. Here are the earnings and economic data to keep an eye on for today.

Earnings Today: TSMC, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs

Today’s biggest report is Taiwan Semiconductor, which announced a 35% jump in profit as AI chip demand remained strong. That’s likely to bleed through in the market today across semiconductor stocks.

Bank earnings also continued today with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and BlackRock reporting. Morgan Stanley topped its estimates thanks to wealth management growth, Goldman saw its revenue decline for the first time in two years due to the Apple Card debacle, and BlackRock’s total assets surpassed $14 trillion.

Regional banks First Horizon and WaFd also join the crop today, offering a perspective on how things are looking on the smaller side of the financial sector.

Economic Data

Most of today’s economic data is already out this morning, including the latest Initial Jobless Claims (198K; down from 207K last week) and Continuing Jobless Claims (1.884 million; down from 1.903 million last week).
